As of 2025, the APCSE will hold the Estrela Mountain Dog Championship, which will annually reward the dogs with the highest scores in dog shows and work aptitude tests organized by the Association. The best youth and the best adult of each variety will be distinguished and the highest scoring of the four will be proclaimed APCSE Dog of the Year and awarded a trophy. All four will receive prizes, to be announced.
